Oxo-Biodegradable straws are made with the additive Reverte® which turns ordinary plastic into a material with a different molecular structure.
After an initial 48 hours of sunlight and exposure to oxygen, the straw will begin to degrade and become brittle, breaking down enough to be ingestible by micro-organisms and thereby setting the stage for biodegradation. At the end of the process the material will become CO² and disappear in the same way as a leaf.
Bio-assimilation will occur even in the unfortunate situation where the straw is discarded in the open environment or waterways.
The useful life of the straws is approximately 2-4 months once the product has been opened. It has the same characteristics and strength of a normal plastic straw and is suitable for all cold beverages including high acidic juices.
